The Rocky Mountains in August

We were fortunate again this year to cabin-sit for some friends for the month of August while they explored the west coast.  Since I had bronchitis for most of the time, we didn't do too much but enjoy nature, read and relax.

My buddy and I convalescing

Loved having my coffee down by the creek and meditating on the new
gliding bench.

Boo kept his eye on the squirrels at all times.

Jim could do computer stuff outside on the deck.

Jason and Jack came to visit for an afternoon.

Kathy spent the night one night.

We had a great walk along the creek

The last time we were here
we gave the Lyons an outdoor
mirror so we found a good
spot for it and decorated it.

Beautiful rocks are everywhere!

I had a grand time taking pictures of some small beautiful things you might not ordinarily notice:

Amazing what can grow in the rocks!

And check out the beauty of these lichen!

This used to adorn our Gunbarrel home but
we thought it belonged here.

No wonder there are bears around!

How cute is Boo?  Waiting for bedtime!

At Claire's-a Bacon Bloody Mary-Boo got the bacon!

Walking around Lake Estes

Lupe, a very nice stranger to us, was so successful
at fishing that he gave us these two rainbows for dinner.

Although there has been an incredible clean up from the floods of 2013,
you can still see the effects of the storm's force.

Couldn't believe a food truck for dogs

The Estes Farmer's Market
We loaded up on fresh local veggies and
 peaches from Palisades.

We loved getting a chance to venture into Rocky Mountain National Park when I could finally hike without coughing.  But this day there was a huge storm.  It was a good chance to investigate parts of the park we hadn't been to for awhile.  We drove the Fall River Road and took a quick hike in Beaver Meadows before the rain hit.

It was a deluge that the windshield wipers couldn't catch up with.

It was eautiful watching and listening to the downpour
when we got back to the cabin.
