Flaming Gorge-So Much More Than We Thought

Flaming Gorge has always been out there on the northwestern corner, above Colorado and framed by both Utah and Wyoming.  As many times as we've passed by on our way to other places, we had never stopped here.  What an amazing experience this was.  We thought we'd probably spend a day or two, but were so mesmerized by its beauty that we spent nearly a week.

First of all, we got in late and I was driving (so, not taking pictures) and missed all the pictures of the incredible drive up Red Cloud Byway from Vernal to the Gorge.  It climbed from the desert floor to the aspen and pine/fir covered forests above.  (I was so glad to be driving-control issues, probably-but Jim is happy that he is not driving with me whimpering and moaning and groaning).  We decided to go left, instead of right, because of Jim's logic that most people would go right, because that's where the dam and alot of the boating activity were.  AND, he was so right!  We ended up at Red Canyon, overlooking the most amazing scene.

Our campsite was just a few feet from this!!!!!

And there were only two or three other campers here.

From our chairs....

Across the street was the Visitor's Center and this view in
the early morning.

Boo and I loved walking the Canyon Rim Trail in the mornings.

Everywhere you look-beauty all around!
We took the Sheep Creek Geological Scenic Loop and it was amazing!  See for yourself.

That says it all, doesn't it!?!!

This is Sheep Creek Bay, where we kayaked two days in a row.
It would be a terrible place to camp but was great for launching
a kayak.  We do now, however, have another problem:  another
(or the same, who knows) leak.  We could hear a little whistling
sound as we rounded the corner back to the parking lot.

Our newest Happy Hour Hill-only one drink allowed!

We will miss this!

Hmmm-future painting?

Boo in the rising sun-sounds like a song in
the making, doesn't it?

And we're almost off.....

And, guess who is ready for the next adventure....?
Fossil Butte National Monument, anyone?
