Well, we finally made it out of "Dodge" on the 12th of October- the girls' 40th birthday (they celebrated together in Alaska!), after doing some last minute things with Jason and awaiting the results of Jim's leg biopsy. We heard at 12:30 that the test was negative and we were on the road at 3:30-pretty darned good for us! We made it as far as Walsenburg, CO the first night-a lousy Best Western (but convenient) and we were too tired to care!

Snow on the Twin Peaks-Time to head south |

Loaded outside ... |
 |
...and inside |
 |
Barely enough room for Boo |
The second night we made it to Truth or Consequences, NM and stayed at a very funky little motel/spa called The Pelican (very apropos, since pelicans would soon take over a big part of our lives.) They certainly knew how to decorate for the season! We loved our little suite and even had our own mineral bath room where Boo could be with us!
 |
Sunsets were beautiful here but we were anxious to
get down to Mexico for the real deal. |
We stayed at the Best Western in Green Valley this time, forgoing our usual shopping trip to Trader Joe's and Whole Foods in Tucson-we had enough stuff! We had a great room right by the swimming pool, where Gary and Sharon joined us for drinks and then dinner out at a nearby Mexican restaurant-what else?!!
We got through the border in good time and got the green light so no need to stop except at KM 21 for Visas and our all Mexico auto pass, in case we want to explore more of Mexico this year. We unloaded in a hurry, went to JJ's for a quick and easy dinner.
We (meaning especially me) are always a little nervous about what a new place will be like. Our landlady, who lives downstairs, promised to get a king bed for us and we were hopeful that it would be comfortable. We were also not very happy with the old furniture in the living room. Well, it turns out that we are thrilled with our new digs! A friend gave us her old loveseat and sofa because she was getting new ones, Katie (our landlady) got a bed made the way we wanted it and the mattress is wonderful and she has a go-to guy named Carlos who is a handyman/gardening guy who comes three times a week to do little jobs like painting, watering and generally making things better.

We sit right on the ocean! Ours is the two story white building above
the big cave. Yes, we have bats! We love watching them at night and
imagining them eating the mosquitos-we have none so far! |
 |
This is the front of the house from the street. No garage this year but
plenty of shade. We planted and pruned soon after getting here. |

Hallway to the great room |

Living room area |
 |
Very small kitchen-I've organized 3 times already and
finally have a place for everything! |
 |
Wonderful views and lots of outdoor spaces to go for sun or shade or
for cooling breezes or cold winds. |
 |
We sit right here in the mornings before the sun comes up to watch
thousands of pelicans leave their nesting grounds on Honeymoon
Island to fish and preen during the day. |
 |
Look who loves watching and listening to the birds! |
 |
Southern view |

Gathering of pelicans down below during low tide |
 |
Fabulous sunrises from our terrace |
 |
Hard to focus but this goes on from first light until sunrise-thousands of
pelicans flapping and flying to San Carlos Roca! |
 |
We can walk to the beach below-La Posada Beach
Our place is to the left of the trees and the right of the palm tree. It is mostly
rock and very little sand but lots of seashells here. |
 |
We can walk down to two nice restaurants on the beach-
La Palapa Griega and El Mar. The tall building is a
condo complex. We used to live a few blocks beyond
that years 2 and 3. |
 |
Our new and wonderful bed with darling pup! |

View from the guest room and ramada area-great escape
from the sun |

Watching boats is so much fun! |
We didn't wait long to visit the Soggy Peso and our favorite musician, Omar, was playing to our delight!
 |
Met up with pals (sisters), Susan and Kate |
 |
And a not disappointing sunset! |
Our first trip to the Sunset Grill for Latin music and drinks with friends.
The painting group gathered to paint this fabulous cactus.

Margene, Diana, Norma and Laura
It was hot but the cactus had us all in awe of it! |
 |
I have much to learn about painting cacti!!! |
When Cindy got back in town, "The Tribe" (sans Win and Cinda) gathered for a welcome back cruise.

The cormorants have taken over the heron nests-don't
know why-maybe not breeding season for the herons yet. |
 |
The Great Blues are here though |
 |
Chewy caught a silver skip jack-we see these from our
house-hundreds of them swimming together in schools
and shining all silvery in the sun. |
 |
Our destination-Lion's Rock |
 |
Our Capitan, Manny! |
 |
WOW! We even saw the green light when it set! |

It's hard to tell if Boo enjoys cruising or he just wants to be with us wherever we go. I suspect the latter. |
 |
Back to the marina |
On Saturday, there was a Sailing Regatta in our little bay. We were walking the beach and then decided to take a dip and swim with the pelicans and sailboats.
 |
That's me out there! |
 |
And guess who got his first San Carlos grooming this year!? |
