Christmas in San Carlos is beginning to feel a little normal. For the last six years our kids haven't been with us and that is always tough for us. But we do find ways to make the holidays jolly.

Us on Christmas Day |
First up is the Christmas Boat Parade. This year we saw it from our balcony for the first time and it was spectacular. The first two boats were boats of friends-the Hattie Annie with Steve and Araceli and the second, a sailboat with Karen and Chris Chandler. We hollered and hooted and generally made them take note of our party! |
Another tradition is the annual Christmas singalong which
gets us in the mood for the holiday season. |
Our friend, Maggie, with Boo decorated
in Christmas lights. |
Hard to believe this is Christmas, isn't it!? The bougainvillea
is in bloom and the plumeria is in remission. |
Posing for the cameras on Christmas Eve |
On Christmas, we went out to Soggy Peso for a spiked coffee and enjoyed a brisk but beautiful day.
After Soggy Peso, we drove over to some friends at Marina Real for a fun afternoon of Christmas games with friends (forgot to take pictures in all the excitement) and then on to our neighbors, Tracy and Charlie, for Christmas dinner.
Charlie, right up there with Jim as a bartender extraordinaire! |
Other neighbors, Gary and Tibby, who we learned this night, had a casita
for rent, which eventually became Janet's home here. |
Tracy, not only is a concert pianist, a lawyer and a Bonanza
star, but a lovely human being who is the Queen of the
Almejas neighborhood. |
Sam and Elizabeth on New Year's at Cheryl and Bill's |
Meanwhile, Jim was in NYC with Janet and
her friends, Debbie and Ria |
A little after Christmas shopping in Guaymas for material-love all these
colors! |
Luckily for me, the next week (while Jim was still out of town), was devoted to Omar. Friends of ours organized a "Week of Omar". Omar is one of our favorite local musicians. We all signed up to go see Omar at each of his events during the week.
Monday night was Silent Movie Night. We watched hysterical Charlie
Chaplan movies while Omar played the keyboard. The picture was taken
in Silverton about six years ago: Ron and Kathy (our vecinas) and Kathy
and Omar before they were married. |
Panchetta, favorite waitress of all time! |
Tuesday was Omar at the Soggy Peso, playing drums, guitar and ukulele. |
We are missing Jim at our favorite Omar venue. |
As always, an amazing sunset |
Wednesday brought us to the Playa Blanca condos-a beautiful setting
but lousy acoustics! |
Another favorite venue-Bonifacio's with Pab (our fisherman neighbor) on
drums and Brad on flute, trumpet and vocals. |
On Saturday night (I missed pictures for Friday at Tortugas), Omar invited all of us to his yoga studio for a special concert. |
His daughter, Eva, is a budding vocalist. |
His mother-in-law makes Ukranian eggs and pendants
out of ostrich egg shells. |
Gramma lives in this airstream on the
property. |
Omar at the Sunset Grill for the jazz trio |
A chilly night to cap off the week of Omar |
Never a dull moment, even in January-this night Cheryl was celebrating a birthday aboard the Andale.
