At the end of February and beginning of March life went on as always. We heard a little about the Corona Virus in China and South Korea and Japan. By the time we got home on the 15th from the Johnsons' wonderful party on the Bahia, we had decided to self isolate. On March 16th, we sent an email to all our friends, telling them what we decided and canceling all our social events. We quarantined at #15 Almejas. Most of our friends were either doing that or packing up to leave for the states or Canada. We considered that but we had to move from Almejas to Linda Vista (about 5 minutes away but still a move!) We could have stored stuff somewhere in town but decided that storing at the new house would make next year better and we could move most things ourselves with the help of Amy (see below). (We were going to hire movers but decided that wasn't safe because of the virus.)

This was 2 nights before our Pandemic isolation. Susan and David and

Soon everyone was leaving to go back home. The good part of that is that friends brought us lots of wine and leftover food. The bad part, of course, was saying goodbye for a longer time than usual and saying goodbye to our way of being with each other. We got home deliveries from Amy and a local real estate firm and Pab, bless his heart, kept us in a healthy supply of fresh fish. The weather was lovely. If we didn't have to move, we might be pretty happy people.

Incessant news watching at first, trying to make sense of how our country was changing.
We kept vacillating about whether to stay or go and decided to just go day to day with plans. |
